Fishing in Älvdalen, SwedenWe know all there is to know about fishing in Älvdalen...Älvdalen is close! By car it takes 4 hours from Stockholm and 6 hours from Gothenburg. Älvdalens Fishing Organisation manages about 230 km of running waters and more than 400 lakes in an area covering over 2500 square kilometres. The organisation works actively so that the rules and the care of the fish are suited to the natural conditions of the area. If you want to explore the area on your own buy a fishing map from the same place you buy your fishing permit. A little something for everyone. It doesn't matter if you are an addicted angler or just want to fish for fun with the family. You'll find what you are looking for in Älvdalen. There are lakes for perch and good fishing waters with white fish. If you would rather do some gamefishing then choose one of the numerous lakes with both trout and char, and even in certain cases grayling. If you want to do some trolling then the large reservoirs north of Älvdalen are interesting alternatives. Trout in weights over 9 kilos have been caught there and there are boat ramps for your convenience. In most of the better lakes there are boats for hire or perhaps you'd like to try fishing from a floating tube. North West of Älvdalen there are a number of really good waters for finding some good sized pike. Flyfishing in running water. Flyfishing has become somewhat of a noble trademark for Älvdalen. You'll find more than 200 kilometres of a variety of fishing waters, from the smaller streams such as Tennån and Vanån to the great river Österdalälven. Österdalälven, which flows right through Älvdalen on its way to Lake Siljan has plenty of grayling and trout and offers you a good selection of fishing throughout the season which stretches from May until late Autumn and even into December, on a good year. Rotälven, Tennån and Vanån. Here you'll really be put to the test. The wild trout are often very shy and you'll need a lot of caution and patience. The fishing is at its best between Midsummer and August. Help to preserve the high class fishing in Älvdalen by following our simple recommendations. Consider the following important points when practising catch & release: - Don't keep more fish than you can eat yourself. - When you return fish, try not to stress the fish more than necessary. keep the fight as short as possible. - Wet your hands before touching the fish, take the hook out carefully and let the fish recover in the water before you release it. - Respect the local fishing regulations.
